The 22-year-old is highly regarded at Villa are impressing at youth level for us since he arrived from Barcelona in 2020, as he played a pivotal role in our successful FA Youth Cup campaign a year later.

Barry has since gone out on some highly productive loan spells where he has showcased his talent and potential, and there is clearly a bright future ahead for him if he can stay healthy and continue to develop.
It seems very unlikely that he’ll ultimately make a breakthrough in the Villa first-team squad given the competition for places we have at that level coupled with Unai Emery continuing to look to bring in reinforcements to bolster his attacking options, and so speculation has suggested that Barry could be on the move this summer.
According to the [Hull Daily Mail](https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/hull-city-transfer-update-lewis-10296119), Hull are in talks with Villa over a permanent move for Barry after his brief loan stint with them last season was cut short due to injury, while it’s added that we’re open to selling as we look to secure a financial boost ahead of the PSR deadline on June 30.
That said, the report goes on to note that Hull are considering their options and so it remains to be seen if Barry emerges as their priority transfer target, and if so, whether or not the two clubs can reach an agreement on terms.
It’s disappointing to an extent if we see another talented young player leave Villa, as we’d ideally like to see the top talents make it at senior level and establish themselves as key figures in Emery’s plans to compete on multiple fronts.
However, Barry is coming to a point in his career now where after a string of loan stints elsewhere, a decision has to be made on his long-term future that works for all concerned, and although injuries have been an issue, he’s shown he’s a top young player and with a contract at Villa running until 2028, it’s hoped that he’ll command a decent fee to give us a timely financial boost.
It’s a strategy that we’ve utilised multiple times over the past couple of years with the likes of Omari Kellyman, Jaden Philogene, Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey, Tim Iroegbunam and others, and Barry could be the latest name added to that list this summer.
