Goalkeeper Tom Heaton has said he is "extremely proud" to have signed a new contract at Manchester United, setting the target of trying to win silverware.

The shot-stopper has signed a new one-year deal at Old Trafford to keep him at the club until June 2026. His previous deal was due to expire this coming Monday.

Heaton is one of four first-team players whose deals are up at the end of this month, but he was the only one to be offered fresh terms. Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen will officially leave the club on June 30.

Heaton returned to United in 2021 and has been an immensely popular member of the dressing room since. He has also been part of the club's leadership group.

On signing a new deal at United, Heaton told the club's website: "I am extremely proud to continue to represent Manchester United. As a group, we are all really excited for the season ahead.

"I am ready to support the team in every capacity as we prepare to get back to challenging for the biggest honours."

United director of football Jason Wilcox added: "Tom's leadership and experience are really important for the group so we're pleased that he will be part of the squad again next season.

"Tom's mentality and excellent preparation to ensure that he is always ready to perform when called upon makes him the perfect complement to our goalkeeping group."

Heaton was always open to staying at United for another year amid expectations that he would leave the club this summer. He is a boyhood United fan and could move into a coaching role at the club when he eventually decides to hang up his gloves.
