Fabrizio Romano drops update on Leeds United's 'complicated' transfer pursuit of Habib Diarra

Leeds United have not given up hope of luring Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra to Elland Road. As reported by Leeds Live earlier this week, the agents of the 21-year-old are pushing for a Premier League move for their client.

Although the Whites had a £22m bid for Diarra rejected earlier this month, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano says the top flight new boys are still pursuing a deal for the player. “They (Leeds) are in negotiations for the player," Romano told GIVEMESPORT. "He’s really appreciated.

“Diarra is one of the most appreciated options internally, but it’s not an easy deal because of the valuation, so it’s still complicated to make it happen. But Leeds are trying.”

The Senegal international is on the transfer radar of a number of Premier League clubs. Brighton and Hove Albion and Everton are understood to have expressed an interest in Diarra, whose contract at Stade de la Meinau expires in June 2028, this year.

Diarra featured 30 times in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring four goals and weighing in with five assists to help Liam Rosenior's team finish seventh in the standings. But speaking in a recent interview with French broadcaster RMC Sport, Strasbourg president Marc Keller admitted Diarra could leave this summer.

"There’s one player who should leave, based on a promise I made to him two years ago, and that’s our captain Habib Diarra," he said. "When he extended his contract, we told him he was extending it, but that he wouldn’t leave until June 2025. So, if we get an attractive offer for him and for us, he could leave."
