Report: Everton told they can sign the ‘best player’ in the Championship for just £6m

Gustavo Hamer is someone being considered by Everton this summer in what would be a remarkable transfer.

Once again, along with Everton, Leeds United are also seeking out a deal for Hamer this summer.

It’s been said that both clubs are keen as Hamer is expected to leave Sheffield United after they failed to get promoted to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has had plenty of praise, with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca stating in a press conference in 2023 that Hamer is the ‘best player’ in the Championship, which will be intriguing to David Moyes.

That’s been backed up by him winning the Championship player of the season last campaign, as Everton are looking to sign Hamer for £20m, but that might be about to change.

Shock new price tag given for Everton target Gustavo Hamer

The Dutch playmaker has proven time and time again he’s Premier League quality, as not only did he dominate the Championship scene, but he showed bright sparks in the top flight.

His ability to play as both an attacking and defensively-minded midfielder is something that Moyes will want to explore.

Leeds supposedly hold an advantage with Hamer, but actually Jordan Pickford could help the Toffees land the midfielder, with Hamer sharing the same agent as Pickford.

Rather than focusing on who holds the cards though, both clubs should focus on the other team now entering the frame, as a shocking price tag has emerged.

Rik Elfrink, writing for Dutch outlet ED.nl, has stated that Hamer is currently one of the many options that Dutch giants PSV are looking at to strengthen their squad

The 28-year-old was voted the best player of the Championship, as aforementioned, but with PSV ‘s interest, it’s now being said that Hamer should cost between £6m and £10m, depending on the bonuses that Sheffield wants.

Everton’s past with Sheffield United might help Hamer deal

To have a cut-price of £10m is a shocking revelation to discover, as Moyes and Everton will no doubt be gearing up to match PSV’s pursuit.

The advantage the Dutch side will have is the opportunity of Champions League, but Everton’s history with Sheffield United could lend them a helping hand.

This is after previous deals between the two clubs, as the likes of Tom Davies, Muhamed Besic, and Mason Holgate have been given to the Blades for good deals.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin came the other way from Bramall Lane, and his impact at the club can’t be disputed.

Calvert-Lewin won’t be joining Leeds, and Everton will be hoping the same doesn’t happen with Hamer, as, extraordinarily, he could be signed for just £6m.
