Report: Forgotten Newcastle man has already picked his next destination after Eddie Howe told…

Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with several Premier League stars on their radar, but it means other players will have to go.

Player sales have been a much more common occurrence in recent years than arrivals have been on Tyneside, with PSR playing a big part in Eddie Howe’s transfer plans.

The Newcastle United manager has always been eager to add more bodies to his first-team squad, but has been hamstrung by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which have seen them lose players rather than add them.

However, this summer is a completely different story. Newcastle have at least £150m to spend and are more than prepared to spend it after almost two years without improving the starting XI.

In the meantime, player sales will not remain a thing of the past, and a few players are expected to leave this summer. A new report has stated that one forgotten man has already decided where he wants to go after being told to leave.

Newcastle United man Odysseas Vlachodimos decides next destination after being told to go on loan

If he could turn back the clock, many would think that Odysseas Vlachodimos may have decided against moving to Newcastle last summer.

Vlachodimos signed for Newcastle for £20m in 2024 as part of some creative transfer market movements before the PSR deadline. However, the shot-stopper has played just 45 minutes for the Magpies since joining, proving to be a complete waste of money.

His sole appearance came in a Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon, when he was brought on at half-time. He kept a clean sheet, but that is his only contribution to the club.

It was reported that Vlachodimos is free to leave Newcastle on loan, and it has now been revealed where he wants to go this summer. According to inews, the path is clear for Vlachodimos to leave on loan, with the Greece international only wanting to leave for a club in Europe’s top five leagues.

After missing out on Martin Dubravka, Al-Shabab were interested in signing Vlachodimos in January. However, the goalkeeper turned down the move to Saudi Arabia. It remains to be seen what happens with Vlachodimos this summer, but all signs point towards his exit.

Odysseas Vlachodimos made history with Newcastle United despite the failed move

At 31 years old, Vlachodimos is only entering his prime as a goalkeeper, so it makes sense to give him the game time he needs elsewhere.

The main reason why he is only being loaned out rather than sold is due to PSR. Because his transfer fee was so high, it will be nigh impossible to get anywhere near the transfer fee they paid for him, especially after playing so little over the last 12 months.

Whatever happens, Vlachodimos will always be remembered as part of the Newcastle squad that ended an agonising wait for a trophy by winning the Carabao Cup at Wembley in March.

Because of his sole appearance, Vlachodimos picked up a winners’ medal for the Carabao Cup win, similar to Lloyd Kelly, who was given a medal despite being loaned to Juventus from January.

There is no exact club that Vlachodimos is joining at this point in time, but his future will be one to watch over the next two months.
