Well, most of us suspected it would come to this. According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Luis Diaz and his camp have grown angry with [Liverpool FC](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com) over their stance on his contract situation. Through journalist briefings over the past month, the club have have maintained that they’re happy to keep Luis Diaz for the rest of his contract, without seeking to extend it. It was rather obviously a wait and see-type move, inviting interested parties to send in their bids, but without making it seem like they were desperate to offload the player.
With just two years left on his contract, and seeking a pay raise on the £55,000 per month he has been earning signed he came to [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/), it’s easy to see why Diaz wants talks to get on about a new contract or a move for what could be his last big money-making contract.
On the other hand, it’s also pretty clear why Liverpool wouldn’t be keen to tie down the player onto a new contract that would see them on the hook as he enters his mid-thirties. Liverpool, under Michael Edwards’ stewardship again, were never going to triple his wages and give him a new four to five year deal. Barcelona’s offer was also nowhere near their valuation.
It appears the wait portion of this approach could very well be over, with Diaz’s camp anxious and wanting something to happen. Watch this space for more developments.
