Man City set to make Ederson the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Manchester City have held talks with goalkeeper Ederson about a new contract.
Ederson was the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League last summer.
As per TBR Football sources, the 31-year-old had agreed terms on a move to Al-Nassr, which would have made him the highest-paid goalkeeper in world football.
However, Pep Guardiola blocked his move to Saudi as he did not want to lose the Brazilian.
Saudi Pro League remains keen on signing Ederson this summer; however, TBR Football can now reveal that City are open to extending Ederson’s stay beyond 2026, with the player out of contract in 12 months,
City have had contact with Ederson’s representatives ahead of a potential offer which would see him handed a deal with a ‘significant’ wage rise.
As per sources, the new deal would make him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League ahead of Liverpool’s Alisson and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.
Ederson on his future at Manchester City amid links with Saudi Pro League
The goalkeeper is currently playing in the Club World Cup, helping Man City beat Juventus 5-2 in their latest win in the tournament.
After the match, he spoke to reporters about his future and confirmed he was happy at City. He said: “My future is here. Some friends send me a lot of news but 99% is fake news. I understand you guys (media), you need the news to put a like on social media or rant for the news.
“I understand, but there’s a lot of fake news around my name. My head is here, it stays with City. It gives me everything to go back to the Premier League again and try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.”
