Man Utd ‘to submit £34m bid’ as next transfer after Bryan Mbeumo decided

Manchester United are ready to submit a bid worth £34million for Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi as Ruben Amorim looks to replace Andre Onana, according to reports. The Red Devils have identified Carnesecchi as an ideal successor amid Onana's uncertain future at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Since joining from Inter Milan in a £47m transfer in 2023, the 29-year-old has seldom convinced due to inconsistent performances and frequent mistakes in costly moments. Amorim has prioritised bolstering his attack with his initial summer budget, while a midfielder and wing-back are also thought to be on the agenda.

However, the Portuguese head coach reportedly is not comfortable with his goalkeeper situation either and wants a change in personnel.

According to Football Italia, Carnessechi has become an increasingly concrete target for United, who are preparing a pursuit.

It's claimed that the M16 giants are ready to present Atalanta with a £34m offer for their goalkeeper, who turns 25 next week.

The Serie A club are said to want between £38m and £43m to part ways with Carnessechi, a demand that United could satisfy through bonuses.

But the report adds that any swoop depends on Onana's exit, and the United No. 24 is currently expected to stay put.

Carnessechi graduated from Atalanta's academy in 2019 and spent loan stints at Cesena, Trapani and Cremonese before establishing himself in the senior squad.

The Italy Under-21 international, who has featured on the senior bench five times, has made 88 appearances in Serie A, conceding 111 goals and keeping 26 clean sheets.

Carnessechi also has Champions League experience under his belt, conceding nine goals and keeping five clean sheets in nine outings.

For Atalanta, his impressive record stands at 79 goals shipped in 76 games, with 28 shut-outs to his name.

A move for a goalkeeper is currently considered unlikely, given the expectation that Onana stays and the other areas United must strengthen.

The Red Devils have to generate funds through player sales once Bryan Mbeumo joins from Brentford. Matheus Cunha has already arrived in a £62.5m deal from Wolves.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia are among the players in the shop window.

But United are unsurprisingly finding it difficult to shift their deadwood after the worst season in the club's modern history.
