Arsenal are said to be pushing to land a new defender as they continue to strengthen en masse.

Arsenal are now said to be turning their attention to addressing the centre-back area amid a busy early period in the summer. The Gunners are already hard at work on new arrivals, and it looks as though they have bagged three new signings already, though they are yet to be made official.

Arteta needs more depth in that position, even if the likes of Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori can play there. Arteta likes to play all three of those players as full-back, and it looks as though he wants a true centre-back who can offer competition for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba going into the future, with both players expected to be around for years to come.

One of the latest names to be linked is a current La Liga star who appears to have a very big future ahead of him. Here we run you through the latest.

What’s the latest with Arsenal and Cristhian Mosquera?

Arsenal are said to be pushing for a deal to sign Mosquera on a deal reported to be worth £17.05million. Mosquera is in the final year of his contract at Valencia and the Spanish club are said to be dragging their feet over a new deal in typically unorganised style for the poorly run club.

Only recently, Mosquera’s agent Sergio Barila said: “We have come to talk to the club and in a few days we will talk again. We are going to wait these days, and we will analyse the situation on both sides. The boy is very happy at Valencia, he has always transmitted it.”

Just weeks later, Las Provincias say Mosquera is tired of waiting for Valencia to make an offer, and he is now said to be very interested in moving to the Premier League amid interest from Arsenal. AS have reported that Arsenal are preparing a formal offer for the defender but no official offer has been made at this point.

Who is Cristhian Mosquera?

Cristhian Mosquera is a 20-year-old Spanish centre-back who was born in Alicante. He was snapped up by Valencia by the time he turned 12 after initially representing Hercules’ academy. He graduated to Los Ché’s first team in 2021 and has already made 82 league appearances despite his youth.

Mosquera is also a Spain under-21s international and was one of their starting centre-backs for the under-21s European Championships which saw Spain reach the quarter-final stage.

Mosquera stands at 6ft2”, though his height can appear even greater with his almost gangly and long-legged frame. He is a strong defender who is good in the air and composed on the ball, in true Spanish style.
