Everton’s protracted pursuit of Thierno Barry looks set to be finalised soon.

David Moyes’ well-documented search for a striker has seen Everton linked with Barry for several weeks now, but the deal has been a complicated one to get over the line.

Barry is keen to play in the Premier League, but differences between Villarreal and Everton in the valuation of the France Under-21 forward have stalled progress.

However, Everton have now intensified their pursuit, and finally look set to get a deal over the line following recent developments.

Everton to seal Barry transfer in a matter of days

As reported by journalist Santi Aouna on X (25 June), Everton are days away from finally signing Barry, with the 22-year-old enthusiastic about the move.

The tall forward fits the typical Moyes striker bill and is joining on the back of a successful season in which he helped Villarreal qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Barry’s senior club career record

Barry’s progress has seen him go from the Belgian second division to La Liga in just two years, and he is now set to make another step up to the Premier League with the Toffees.

The fee for the player has been a sticking point, but ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that Everton will end up paying less than his £34million release clause and could land the striker for as little as £25m.

“I think the deal could be done for less than his release clause,” King said.

“If the offer is between £25-30m, the deal could be done. You never want an unhappy player at your football club. Therefore, if this player has a chance to head to the Premier League, and Villarreal are going to make money, then it makes sense.

“This would be a good signing because Everton need a new striker.”

Everton fans’ worries will be eased by Barry’s arrival

The Everton faithful were promised a different experience with The Friedkin Group at the helm, as the ambitious owners guaranteed significant investment in the first team.

However, without a new signing to speak of toward the end of June, faith in the promises has faded.

Therefore, should the deal for Barry be finalised, the marquee signing would go a long way in alleviating some of the worries and would send a statement of intent that will resonate with Everton supporters.
