Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has called an end to his time with Leicester City after The Foxes’ relegation this season.
van Nistelrooy was handed the reins at the King Power Stadium back in December 2024 after his short-lived Premier League return with The Red Devils.
The former striker joined United last summer as part of INEOS’ new coaching line-up to support Erik ten Hag, taking on the role of assistant manager alongside Rene Hake.
However, when ten Hag was dismissed in October, van Nistelrooy took to the helm as interim manager until Ruben Amorim could assume his role as permanent manager.
In this time under van Nistelrooy, United were undefeated, grabbing a draw and three wins, two of which were against Leicester.
Unfortunately for van Nistelrooy however, Amorim’s appointment came along with the appointment of his coaching staff from Sporting CP, leaving no room for the former Netherlands international at Carrington.
However, after less that a month without a club, several teams were vying for his services, with Leicester landing their man.

The legendary striker took charge of the Foxes as they sat in 16th place after 13 games and unfortunately only registered five wins throughout the rest of the season, four in the Premier League with two of the four being against other relegated sides.
Across his 27 games in charge, van Nistelrooy won five games, drew three and lost 19, seeing Leister fall to 18th place, only above Southampton and Ipswich Town.
Leicester City have officially reported that the club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed to part ways.
In a written statement, the club state that the decision was mutually agreed that van Nistelerooy’s contract with the club as First Team Manager would be terminated.
They also clarify that this move is done with immediate effect.
Speaking about his time with the club, the Dutchman commented: “I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the club well for the future”.
What the future holds for Ruud van Nistelrooy remains to be seen.
But t’s highly likely that he’ll be back in a dugout for a new team sooner rather than later.
