Chelsea have become the latest club to add Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez to their summer target list.
That’s at least what journalist Christian Martin told DSports, and Infobae have relayed his comments.
Robert Sánchez was the first choice for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea last season, with Filip Jörgensen as his backup. The Spaniard failed to impress regularly while Jörgensen wasn’t able to capitalise when presented with opportunities.
The journalist claims the Blues manager wants to sign the Argentina international. His compatriot, Willy Caballero, is part of Maresca’s backroom staff and Martin claims he has given his approval to sign the Aston Villa player.
Caballero would have convinced Maresca that it’s a good idea for Chelsea to try and take the 32-year-old away from Aston Villa.
“They want him as their starting goalkeeper. Enzo Maresca is asking for him, Willy Caballero, who is part of the coaching staff and trains the goalkeepers, has already given his approval. For now, Chelsea is a very reliable and precise option,” he said.
Recent claims from Argentina have repeatedly insisted the Aston Villa stopper prefers to join Manchester United.
Last week, Olé reported the Red Devils have made formal contact to sign the World Cup winner. The DSports journalist insists Chelsea are the “number two” option in England, behind “favourite” Manchester United.
Atlético Madrid are also in the picture, but Martin claims the player “prioritises staying in England.”
These endless claims from South America regarding the Aston Villa goalkeeper feel like his camp trying to drum up interest rather than the clubs making serious efforts.
