Lakers sign top scorer in college basketball

The Los Angeles Lakers weren’t all that active in the 2025 NBA Draft over the past two days. But after the draft concluded, the organization did bring in the most prolific scorer in college basketball last season on a two-way contract.

Villanova Wildcats forward Eric Dixon took the college basketball world by storm in his final year with the program this past season, averaging 23.3 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent on three-point attempts on the year.

Dixon’s 23.3 points per game led everyone in Division 1 college basketball this past season, which the Lakers seemingly see some value in.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers have agreed to a two-way deal to bring Dixon in and give him an opportunity to compete for a roster spot for the 2025-26 NBA season.

Despite his ability to score at the collegiate level, Dixon didn’t profile to be someone who would be a top draft prospect. Though, most did expect Dixon to get selected sometime in the second round, which didn’t happen.

As an undersized big man, Dixon may have a hard time carving out a full-time role with the Lakers right away. But as a stretch big man with his kind of shooting ability, Dixon does provide a skill that could certainly be valuable for a Lakers team always looking for shooters around LeBron James and Luka Dončić.
