While the rest of the Premier League may not be celebrating Liverpool and Manchester City’s spending this summer, that’s not the case at AZ Alkmaar. In fact, they may want more of it.
That’s because they’ve already benefitted greatly from resale clauses that have proven to be ‘worth gold’ for them, [as explained by Voetbal Primeur.](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuws/1308381/doorverkoop-clausules-goud-waard-voor-az-dit-leverden-reijnders-en-kerkez-al-op.html)
They start with Milos Kerkez’s move to Liverpool. Now that has been completed, a ‘nice amount of money’ is set to flow back to his former club. They negotiated a resale percentage with Bournemouth when he was sold in 2023.
That was worth 10% so, thanks to Bournemouth making around €29m in profit on the defender, the Dutch side will get €2.9m. They also get another €200,000 from Liverpool’s transfer thanks to FIFA’s Solidarity Mechanism.
That’s after already making €17.87m from selling Kerkez to Bournemouth in 2023. The 21-year-old cost them €2.7m to sign from AC Milan in 2022.
And then there’s Tijjani Reijnders’ move to Manchester City. The 26-year-old joined them from AC Milan in a €55m deal at the beginning of this month. That left the cash registers at AZ ‘ringing vigorously’ as they pocketed around €3.5m from that deal.
They are also entitled to a solidarity contribution for the new Manchester City man, which could be worth around €1.4m. So, in total, they could pocket €5m from his move to Manchester City this summer.
Add it to the money for Kerkez and it’s proven to be a very profitable summer for the Dutch side, without them actually doing anything.
