As every year, several NBA teams will be looking to strengthen their point guard position, which is increasingly crucial in today's basketball.

We've put together a list of the top NBA free agent point guards still available in 2025.
We've also included players who have a player or team option in their current contract and are therefore not 100% guaranteed to become free agents.
1. James Harden (Clippers – PO)

James Harden has had an excellent season with the Los Angeles Clippers, and naturally, there is a lot of interest surrounding his future.
Despite his advancing age, Harden remains one of the best players in the league in his position.
The Clippers do not want to lose him and hope to reach a new agreement with the former Houston Rockets player.
Harden has a $36.3 million player option for next season, but is unlikely to exercise it in order to try to sign a longer contract and secure more guarantees for the future.

When free agency officially begins, Chris Paul will be an unrestricted free agent and therefore free to decide his future.
Now 40, Paul is no longer the dominant player he was a few years ago, but he remains one of the best PG free agents.
In his last season with the Spurs, he played all 82 regular-season games, so he remains physically in good shape.
In recent weeks, Paul has made it clear that he will prioritize his family's needs and that his next destination will therefore need to accommodate his family as well.
Last season, Paul earned just over $10 million, making him a potentially low-cost solution for contenders seeking to add depth to their roster.
The Mavericks, for example, could consider Paul to cover for Kyrie Irving's absence due to a knee injury.
However, it seems more unlikely that Paul will remain with the Spurs.

3. Dennis Schroder (UFA)

Dennis Schroder is undoubtedly one of the most interesting point guards on the market in the upcoming free agency.
The last season has been truly turbulent for the German player, who played for three different teams.
He started with the Brooklyn Nets, then in December, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors, and two months later, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he finished the season.
However, it was in Detroit that Schroder found his niche and made a huge contribution coming off the bench.
Schroder is an unrestricted free agent, so he will be free to choose his next destination. The Pistons would like to keep him and have the salary cap space to make a good offer, but other franchises could get in the way.
The Milwaukee Bucks, for example, are seeking a replacement for Damian Lillard, who will be out for several months, and the German player could be a good fit for Giannis Antetokounmpo's franchise.

4. Russell Westbrook (UFA)

Russell Westbrook has already announced his decision not to exercise the player option he had in his contract with the Denver Nuggets, thus becoming an unrestricted free agent.
At 36, Westbrook is now a veteran of the league and can still make a contribution off the bench for several teams.
However, it remains to be seen how many teams, especially among the contenders, are willing to put up with the former Oklahoma City player's excesses.
Even in Denver, Westbrook had his moments, alternating with others where his limitations became apparent.
For a minimum salary contract, Westbrook could still be a good idea, but how many teams will be willing to take a chance on him?

5. D'Angelo Russell (UFA)

After starting the season with the Los Angeles Lakers, D'Angelo Russell returned to the Brooklyn Nets in December, where he had already played from 2017 to 2019.
As an unrestricted free agent, Russell could become an interesting option for several teams, but the player has stated several times in recent weeks that his priority is to remain in Brooklyn.
After earning around $18 million last season, Russell's next contract is likely to be slightly lower, especially if the player wants to join a contender.

6. Malcolm Brogdon (UFA)

Another free agent PG to keep an eye on is Malcolm Brogdon.
The former Milwaukee Bucks player will be an unrestricted free agent, and his experience could be useful to several teams with playoff ambitions.
In recent weeks, his name has already been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers and the Sacramento Kings.
This past season, Brogdon earned $22.5 million, but his next contract will likely be for less.
At 32 years old and with solid playoff experience, Brogdon could be a quality addition for several franchises looking for depth in the backcourt.

7. Ben Simmons

Of course, it is now quite clear that Ben Simmons is not the superstar many expected him to become when he started his career, but the Australian player can still be a useful option coming off the bench, especially given his relatively low salary.
Among the point guard free agents, Simmons is a player who could be useful to many teams.
He is still quite young (28), gifted athletically, and his vision of the game remains at a high level.
Notably, despite being a point guard, he can also play as a big man in smaller lineups.
The Clippers may be interested in re-signing Simmons, but probably only at a figure close to the minimum salary.
Other teams around the league could offer the player more competitive figures.
