Former Kentucky point guard Lamont Butler has signed a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks as an undrafted free agent, according to multiple reports.
A two-way contract allows players to simultaneously be rostered on an NBA team and also its G League affiliate. Each NBA team is limited to three players on two-way contracts.
Butler's UK teammates Koby Brea (Golden State Warriors traded to Phoenix Suns) and Amari Williams (Orlando Magic traded to Boston Celtics) became the first draft picks of the Mark Pope era at Kentucky after each were selected in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn Thursday night.
Since 2010, no school has produced more total NBA Draft picks (51) than Kentucky. Since the NBA went to a two-round draft in 1989, the Wildcats now have the most players drafted overall with 67, 48 of which have come in the first round.
UK has also had at least one player selected in 18 consecutive NBA Drafts, the longest active streak of any school. Prior to 2025, Kentucky had a first round pick in 15 straight drafts, the longest streak in the common era. The Cats have also produced multiple draft picks in 16 consecutive drafts.
Despite battling through a lingering shoulder injury that cost him seven games and kept him at less than full strength for much of the season, Butler averaged 11.4 points 2.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals for the Wildcats while starting in all 27 games in which he appeared.
In his fifth collegiate season after spending four years at San Diego State, Butler set career-highs for points, assists, and blocks per game in addition to field goal percentage and 3-point percentage.
In a 93-85 win over archrival Louisville at Rupp Arena, Butler went a perfect 10 of 10 from the field, including 6 of 6 from 3-point range, and scored a career-best 33 points to go along with six assists. His 33 points were the most by a Wildcat in a Kentucky win over Louisville since the rivalry resumed in 1983.
He also finished with 19 points, eight assists and three steals in a home win over No. 6 and eventual national champion Florida. After going scoreless in Kentucky's first round NCAA Tournament win over Troy, Butler tallied 14 points, five assists and three steals in a second round win over Illinois and 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists in Kentucky's loss to Tennessee as the Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019.
The San Diego State transfer, who helped lead the Aztecs to its first-ever NCAA title game in 2023, was ranked as the No. 44 overall transfer in the portal and No. 11 point guard by 247Sports last offseason. In a final re-rank of the transfer portal, Butler was ranked No. 19 overall.
Kentucky finished the season 20-7 with Butler in the lineup and just 4-5 without him in the lineup.
