Bees turn to former Town loanee after reported interest in McKenna

Ipswich Town have received a big boost with the news that Keith Andrews has been appointed the new head coach of Brentford.

After Thomas Frank opted to leave the Bees to take charge of Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, reports suggested that Tractor Boys boss Kieran McKenna was high on the shortlist to fill the vacancy at the Gtech Community Stadium.

McKenna was the odds-on favourite with the bookmakers at one stage to succeed Frank in west London, but the Premier League club have instead decided to promote from within.

Andrews, who had a loan spell with Ipswich during his playing days, was the set-piece coach at Brentford under Frank.

However, he will not step up to take the main job after agreeing a three-year contract.
