The San Francisco 49ers seem like they are fairly content with the wide receivers they have on their roster heading into the 2025 season. However, there are some proven options out there, even if it is unlikely San Francisco will sign them.
If every wide receiver on the 49ers were healthy or not dealing with a potential suspension right now, there would be much less consternation over who quarterback Brock Purdy will be throwing to. Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from his knee injury, Ricky Pearsall is a little banged up, and Demarcus Robinson may be suspended for the first few games of the season.
Despite this, San Francisco still has Jauan Jennings, who may be the most underrated wide receiver in the NFL. They also have interesting wild cards like Jacob Cowing or Terique Owens, who could end up being solid contributors even though they lack experience.
Let's take a look at some more proven options that would immediately assuage the fears of fans who think San Francisco is light on wide receiver depth.
3 viable veteran WR options for the 49ers
Amari Cooper
While Amari Cooper may not be the same wide receiver he was earlier in his career, he still brings a wealth of experience to the table. Last season with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, Cooper hauled in 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns. He is just one year removed from a Pro Bowl campaign in 2023 with Cleveland in which he had 1,250 receiving yards.
It seems like Cooper still has something left in the tank, so he would be a proven veteran option for San Francisco. But, he is also likely to be a bit pricier than John Lynch would like, and he may be looking for a multi-year deal.

Keenan Allen
Another proven veteran is Keenan Allen. After many solid years as a member of the Chargers, Allen spent last season with the Chicago Bears. He put up respectable numbers with 70 receptions for 744 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. San Francisco could probably get him on a one-year deal, but they may decide that they would rather see what they have in their younger receivers.
Gabe Davis
While not as old as Cooper or Allen, the 26-year-old Davis proved that he is a legitimate deep threat while with the Buffalo Bills. He struggled last season in Jacksonville, as he only had 239 receiving yards, but maybe a change of scenery would help.
He did visit with the 49ers last month, so perhaps there is some ongoing dialogue between his camp and the team. He would be less expensive than Cooper or Allen, which could appeal to San Francisco's front office as they try to cut costs.
Despite all being solid options, it seems unlikely that the Niners will sign any of these players. They committed to getting younger and less expensive this offseason, so that appears to be the route they are going down, and any of these additions would defy that philosophy.
