Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton has committed his future to the club by signing a one-year extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2026.

The veteran stopper, who is a product of United's academy, is set to remain in Ruben Amorim's squad next season to add depth to the goalkeeping position. While his contract was due to expire on July 1, just like teammates Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen, the 39-year-old is now confirmed to stay despite previous reports suggesting he was considering retirement.

Marking two full decades since his professional debut, the coming 2025/26 campaign will be Heaton's 20th in top-flight football.

Heaton spoke out about his pride and eagerness for the forthcoming seasons, saying: "I am extremely proud to continue to represent Manchester United. As a group, we are all really excited for the season ahead.

"I am ready to support the team in every capacity as we prepare to get back to challenging for the biggest honours."

United's Director of Football Jason Wilcox added: "Tom's leadership and experience are really important for the group, so we're pleased that he will be part of the squad again next season.

"Tom's mentality and excellent preparation to ensure that he is always ready to perform when called upon makes him the perfect complement to our goalkeeping group."

Playing an integral role in United's locker room, Heaton's influence is seen as a key component as United look to rebuild under the Portuguese boss.

Since his return in 2021 from Aston Villa, he has featured three times for United thus far, as he finally made his debut for the Red Devils in August 2021, replacing Dean Henderson during the last 20 minutes of a 1-1 Champions League draw against BSC Young Boys.

The Chester-born keeper later kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic and a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest, contributing to Carabao Cup glory in the 2022/23 season.

Bryan Mbeumo could be the next face through the door, with a deal worth over £60m for the Brentford forward nearing completion.
