Cam Carter will join the San Antonio Spurs at the NBA Summer League after going undrafted on Thursday, according to Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress.
The 6-foot-3 combo guard averaged 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for LSU (14-18). He shot 42.5% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range and played all 32 games, averaging the fourth most minutes in the Southeastern Conference (33.2).
In his one year with coach Matt McMahon, Carter increased his scoring average by two points and his 3-point percentage by nearly 10% from his junior season at Kansas State.
Carter's statistical growth came despite the Tigers having less surrounding talent then expected after LSU's highest-scoring returner Tyrell Ward (9.1 points) never played to focus on his mental health before the season opener.
Matters became more challenging for Carter when starting center Jalen Reed tore his ACL in the eighth game and never returned.
The NBA Summer League starts July 5 with the California Classic and Salt Lake City Summer League and will continue from July 10-20 in Las Vegas.
While the Donaldsonville native isn't guaranteed to make the Spurs roster, his opportunity in the summer league gives him a chance to audition for a training camp invitation for any team.
Another possibility is that he offered a two-way contact, which allows him to split their his time in the NBA and the G-League affiliate.
