Arsenal are trying to sign another defender this summer.
The Gunners have multiple options in their backline, but with Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injuries and Jakub Kiwior potentially leaving, they are keen to strengthen.
TBR Football confirmed on Thursday that Arsenal are closing in on a move to sign Cristhian Mosquera from La Liga side Sevilla this summer.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared what the youngster thinks about becoming a Gunner.
Cristhian Mosquera is ‘not scared’ of Arsenal duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes
Arsenal stars William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been the best defensive pairing in the world over the last two seasons.
The two centre-halves have been immense for Arsenal and are among the biggest reasons why the Gunners have challenged for the Premier League title in each of the last three years.
Kiwior is the backup at Arsenal, and as we have seen over the years, he does not start if both Saliba and Gabriel are fit and available.
That will be the case for whichever defender comes in now, but Mosquera is ‘not scared’ of competing with the two Arsenal centre-backs.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who said in a video on Men in Blazers: “My understanding is that the player wants to go to Arsenal. He sees Arsenal as the perfect opportunity for his career.
“Of course, you have to compete with Gabriel, with William Saliba, but what I’m hearing is that Mosquera is not scared.
“Obviously, he knows that these two defenders are probably the best in the world, but he wants to be there. He knows that Arsenal will have many games; with Mikel Arteta, young players develop very well. So Mosquera said yes to Arsenal.”
Mikel Arteta will love Cristhian Mosquera’s mentality
It would be easy for a defender to decide against joining Arsenal because there’s almost no chance of starting ahead of Saliba and Gabriel.
Moving to another side would definitely guarantee more minutes, but Mosquera’s confidence deserves a lot of praise.
The ‘towering‘ young centre-half has no fear about competing for a place with the two best defenders in the world.
That shows incredible mentality, and we are sure Arteta will love that
Arsenal have had a bid rejected for Mosquera so far, but talks are continuing and a deal is heading in the right direction, as things stand.
