Newcastle United have no intention of signing Marcus Rashford, instead focusing on one of his former Manchester United team-mates.

Rashford, 27, is seeking a new club as his time at Old Trafford seems to be coming to an end. The England international was loaned out to Aston Villa in January, with United's manager Ruben Amorim making it clear that he was no longer in his plans.

Despite scoring four goals and providing five assists in 17 appearances for Villa, the club did not exercise their £40million option to make his move permanent.

United are still holding out for this amount, with Rashford set to return for pre-season training next month if no buyer emerges.

And according to The Sun, Rashford is not on Newcastle's radar despite Magpies' manager Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his attack this summer as they gear up for a return to the Champions League.

Howe is reportedly looking to bolster his squad with former United youngster Anthony Elanga, now at Nottingham Forest, and Brighton's Joao Pedro. These potential signings are believed to be part of an ambitious triple transfer swoop, which could also see Burnley's James Trafford joining the ranks at Newcastle.

In addition to these targets, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey are also being tracked by Newcastle.

Rashford's preference remains to join Barcelona, even going so far as to issue a come-and-get-me plea last week.

His brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was previously seen meeting with Barca's sporting director Deco in Catalunya. Barcelona's manager Hansi Flick has also praised Rashford as a 'fantastic player'.

However, the La Liga champions are unlikely to meet United's asking price, as they're currently prioritising the £50m acquisition of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. Given Barcelona's position, Newcastle had been suggested as a potential destination - but that now appears to be a non-starter for the 27-year-old.

While enjoying a holiday in Marbella, Rashford was asked by the Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer about the prospect of playing with Barca's prodigy Lamine Yamal. "Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best," Rashford responded optimistically. "So hopefully, we'll see."

Rashford expressed his fondness for life in Spain as well, noting: "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home. If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather."
