Liverpool agrees deal to sign next star after Milos Kerkez

The summer rebuild for Liverpool is going full steam ahead — and the next big step isn’t a superstar, but a teenager.

The club has reportedly agreed a deal to sign 16-year-old midfielder Gabriel Schluter from Blackpool, continuing their effort to strengthen not just the first team, but the pipeline behind it.

The Reds have already made waves this summer with signings like Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Jeremie Frimpong.

But behind the big-name headlines, there’s a quiet reshaping happening at the academy level. Schluter is the latest piece in that puzzle, as per reports via Football Insider.

As per the same reports, a deal worth a six-figure fee is in place, and the youngster is expected to undergo a medical at Merseyside next week.

Once complete, he’ll join a revamped Liverpool youth setup under new U21 boss Rob Page.

Who is Gabriel Schluter? Liverpool’s next signing

If you’ve never heard of Gabriel Schluter, don’t worry — you’re not alone. The 16-year-old midfielder rose through the ranks at Blackpool and was named the club’s U15 Players’ Player of the Year in 2024. Not bad for someone who was still doing homework between matches.

Schluter made his senior debut last November in the EFL Trophy. And yes, it was against Liverpool’s own U21 side. That quiet cameo may have sparked a longer look from the Reds, who clearly liked what they saw.

He can play as a left-sided midfielder or out wide and is known for his calmness on the ball. And while he’s still very raw, the potential is there. Clubs like Fulham were circling, but it’s Liverpool who won the race.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce didn’t hide his frustration, saying, “This is the problem we all face… the big boys come calling, so you lose them.”

It’s a familiar story in modern football — one club’s future becomes another club’s present.

Liverpool fans shouldn’t expect to see Schluter at Anfield on opening day. But with the club’s recent track record in developing youth, don’t be surprised if he starts knocking on the door in the coming years. After all, every Harvey started somewhere.
