Enzo Maresca banishes £14m Chelsea player to train with the reserves, he wants him sold - journalist

Enzo Maresca has been asked to work with a bloated first team squad since the moment he walked through the door at Chelsea.

The boss had to navigate a number of tough situations in his first summer at Stamford Bridge, making the controversial decision to leave Raheem Sterling out of his plans.

The same has had to occur with a number of individuals for the Club World Cup so far. Renato Veiga was one of those who was disappointed not to be selected, with Kendry Paez also angry at having to travel as just a training member of the squad.

Another position which sparked interest was the goalkeeper role, and the fact that Djordje Petrovic was not selected to participate in the competition in the United States.

Enzo Maresca tells Djordje Petrovic to train with Chelsea reserves

Despite starring on loan at Strasbourg, it emerged that the Serbian would not be one of the four shot stoppers taken on the tour.

Reports have claimed this came as a result of Petrovic demanding to be the first choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, something the manager has not been so keen to offer.

Now, journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has claimed that the £14m signing has been sent to train with the reserves due to his attitude problems.

He said: “Đorđe Petrović, who is on Galatasaray’s list, has been sent to the second team due to his attitude towards the club during transfer negotiations! Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca wants the player to be transferred from the team as soon as possible.”

Top clubs circling around Petrovic

With Petrovic’s future looking as if it is away from Stamford Bridge, it remains to be seen where he ends up.

The most desirable destination for the owners would be Strasbourg after his excellent previous campaign, however they don’t seem to be at the front of the queue.

Three Premier League sides are interested in Petrovic, setting up the possibility of him lining up against Chelsea next season.

The Blues are currently linked with a number of their own goalkeeper targets. Mike Maignan and Emiliano Martinez have been reported to be of interest this summer.
