'Key to that': David Moyes shares secret task he has set for Seamus Coleman after Everton…

Everton fans are finally being treated to some positive contract news coming out of Finch Farm.

It has been a testing few weeks for Everton fans who have been eagerly awaiting some transfer updates.

However, David Moyes has only seen Carlos Alcaraz’s loan deal made permanent from Flamengo.

Everton need to sign a lot of players this summer with numerous departures set on Merseyside at the end of players’ contracts this month.

The clock is certainly starting to tick in the market as Everton await July’s new PSR window before they get to business.

For now, the focus has mainly circled around Everton’s contract sagas, which have largely rumbled on into the final days of June.

Moyes was desperate to keep Seamus Coleman at Everton, and on Friday, that news was made public as the Ireland international inked a new deal.

However, it is no secret that the right-back suffered massively from injury issues last season.

With his availability being questioned, Moyes has admitted he will be depending on Coleman to provide a lot behind the scenes this season.

“His leadership, his professionalism and his humanity are second to none. He’s helped carry the Club through some difficult periods in the past few years and his influence in the dressing room has been key to that,” he told the club’s media.

“He’s had to deal with some really difficult injuries, too, but he has done that and still been able to help inspire inside the dressing room at the same time.

“This could be a period of real change at the Club and I want somebody who can help deliver the messages of what it means to be an Everton footballer. Seamus has always done that and I know he will continue to do so as we move into a new era.”

Dwight McNeil hailed Coleman as a leader, with the 36-year-old still providing the club with an awful lot despite struggling to stay fit.

Given the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer, keeping Coleman on in some capacity could prove a masterstroke from the 62-year-old manager.

Coleman shares exciting Everton transfer claim

It is going to be a huge summer for Everton and making sure there are some experienced faces around could go a long way at Finch Farm.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave Everton, and the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure have already parted ways.

With a lot of change happening off the pitch, Moyes is going to need the assistance of players like Coleman to keep things ticking in the dressing room.

Commenting on his one-year extension, the right-back has admitted Everton will be bringing in a lot of new signings this summer.

“It’s well known we will have a lot of new faces in this summer and I hope I can help them settle in as quickly as possible,” said Coleman.

“And after a disappointing time with injuries last season, my focus will be on working hard, spending as much time on the pitch as possible, and helping Everton any way I can.”
