Barcelona president Joan Laporta has offered a positive update on the status of Frenkie de Jong’s contract renewal, with the Dutchman set to commit his future to the club for the next several years.
Speaking at a golf charity event on Friday, Laporta was asked about De Jong’s extension and said things are “on the right track”, and expressed his desire to see Frenkie remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
> “It’s on the right track. We want Frenkie to be here for many years. He’s a key player on the team. I hope he stays, he wants to; and I know he’s very happy at Barça and wants to stay. There are no issues.”

De Jong enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in his Barça career last season after years of exit rumors and criticism by his own fanbase, but he adapted brilliantly to Hansi Flick’s system and became a crucial piece of the team in the second half of the campaign after returning from a serious ankle injury.
A contract renewal will not only secure De Jong’s future but also help lower his annual wages, which would also improve Barça’s salary cap situation this summer and in the upcoming seasons.
