Report: Everton making attempt to derail £42m Liverpool move after Reds open talks over forward

Since the summer transfer window opened, Liverpool have been linked with numerous different players, with moves for four already being sanctioned.

The Reds broke their transfer record to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116million, with Slot’s latest addition being Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool are clearly putting themselves in the best situation possible to retain the Premier League title, and to be honest, it doesn’t feel like they’re going to stop there.

Several players are still being heavily linked with an Anfield switch, with Liverpool’s arch-rivals Everton, now trying to derail their pursuit of a target.

Everton have made an enquiry for Malick Fofana

As per a report from TEAMtalk, Everton have now made an ‘enquiry’ to Lyon for the transfer of Malick Fofana.

The Belgian international is highly regarded by many clubs across the world, with at least 10 other Premier League clubs also interested.

TEAMtalk also add that at the moment, the Toffees have only ‘made contact’ with the Ligue 1 outfit to understand the ‘conditions’ that would need to be met for a deal to be sanctioned.

The report rounds things up by stating that at the moment, no clubs are in the ‘advanced’ stages of talks despite the amount of interest being shown in him.

Liverpool cannot let another Premier League team beat them to Malick Fofana

Since the summer transfer window opened, Lyon have been asking for around £42million to prise Fofana away from France.

However, after their relegation to Ligue 2 was announced earlier in the week, a lot of clubs are likely hoping to get some of their players for cut-rate fees.

Georges Mikautadze is another example of this, with many clubs such as Liverpool likely exploring a deal for the Georgian.

It’s clear that Liverpool need another attacker, and seeing as though Fofana is only 20 years old and managed to contribute to 18 goals last season, it’s clear that he’s an exceptional talent.

Only time will tell what the future holds, but if Fofana does become available for a cut-rate fee, it’s a move that Liverpool should be all over.
