Report: Leeds make approach to sign ‘world-class’ midfielder alongside Diarra, deal could be…

Leeds United could make a shock move to sign struggling Juventus star Douglas Luiz in the coming days, according to reports - with the west Yorkshire club having made contact to sign the Brazilian midfielder to end his Italian nightmare and boost their own chances of staying in the top-flight.

Despite featuring in just 19 games in Serie A last season, Luiz clearly has talent, and having only just turned 27, his experience coupled with coming into his prime years means that it would be a superb capture for Daniel Farke if he is to secure Premier League survival.

The report by Calciomercato states that Luiz's failure to emerge from the bench in Juventus' 5-2 defeat to Manchester City on Thursday evening is a huge indication as to where his future lies - with a no-show in the Club World Cup putting him well away from the club's plans.

After a tough debut season in Serie A, the Brazilian could be on the move back to the Premier League after failing to make the cut in Italy, and he is one of the main suspects to leave the Turin club - with Leeds holding an interest.

Juventus have no immediate need to sell by the time the PSR deadline rolls around on the 30th June, but a sale would be favourable - and the interest of Leeds is therefore taking shape, having made an approach by 'making contact' for the former Aston Villa star with their representatives.

It's deemed to be the most viable path for a transfer by Monday evening, and a lot could change in that time, with Luiz's future deemed to be 'far away' from the Allianz Stadium, with Elland Road a potential destination alongside Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra, who has also been linked with Leeds in talks for the 21-year-old.

Luiz has previously made a move to a recently promoted Premier League side in Villa, who he joined in the 2019/20 season from City after they won the Championship play-offs - and he enjoyed the best years of his career in the west Midlands, being called 'world-class' by John McGinn and becoming a prominent fixture in their first-team. He netted an impressive 10 goals in all competitions in the 2023/24 season as the club qualified for the Champions League.
