Sources: West Ham encouraging offers for 'exceptional' star amid Potter decision

West Ham United are encouraging offers from Juventus for defender Nayef Aguerd this summer, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

The Hammers are set for a busy summer transfer window under manager Graham Potter and new head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay, but the east London side are looking to raise funds by selling fringe players first before making their moves.

One player who looks set to move on is Moroccan defender Aguerd, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Real Sociedad, and his performances have attracted the interest of Serie A giants Juventus.

No formal offer made yet

Suggestions from Italy were that the Turin club were keen to sign Aguerd, who has been described as 'exceptional', and were willing to offer defender Daniele Rugani in exchange, but GMS sources understand that the Irons are not interested in that deal.

However, it has now emerged that the club are encouraging the Italian side to make an offer for the 29-year-old, as they look to raise funds for their squad rebuild.

West Ham spent £30m to sign Aguerd from Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2022, but he quickly fell out of favour under David Moyes and was then allowed to leave the club last summer on loan. But the Hammers are now open to letting him leave for around £20m, but they want cash rather than players in exchange.

West Ham have already completed a £32.8m deal to turn Jean-Clair Todibo's loan move from OGC Nice permanent, while the club have also made big savings in the wage department after allowing Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings and Lukasz Fabianski to leave at the end of their contracts.

The club would also be keen to move Aguerd on as he doesn't fit into Potter's plans in defence, but sources insist that there has been no formal offer from Juventus currently.

Juventus Likely to Low-Ball West Ham

West Ham not interested in any swap deals

Juventus have been known to do deals in the past to help balance their books, with a three-way deal with Aston Villa including Douglas Luiz, Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenchea taking headlines last summer.

But West Ham have made it clear that swap deals for anyone are not an option this summer as they are looking for cash deals.

Juventus are aware of this and sense that their need for cash means they could make their interest more concrete with a low-ball offer. Sources in Italy suggest that they would not expect to go any higher than €15m (£12.8m) for Aguerd, which is some way off what West Ham are asking for.
