Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is linked with a summer move to Tottenham
Massive changes are needed at Tottenham following a disastrous Premier League campaign that the club endured last season. All areas of the pitch need to be addressed in the summer if the Lilywhites want to close the gap on their rivals next season. This is perfect opportunity for the North London club to reconnect with its fans as they look to build on the Europa League success next season.
One may argue that the attacking line lived up to its expectations last season. But many key attackers failed to step up when it mattered the most. Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke admitted himself that he found life tough during the initial months at N17. However, the 27-year-old made up for it in the end and played a crucial part in helping Spurs win the Europa League.

The same cannot be said about Richarlison. The Brazil international has time and again failed to make an impact for the Lilywhites on a consistent basis. Not only that, but the 28-year-old has endured a lot of injuries during his time at Hotspur Way and has failed to provide cover for Dominic Solanke up top.
Steffen Freund wants Tottenham to go all-in for Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new attacker in the summer following a disappointing domestic campaign. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites are looking to make a move for Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku as they look to bolster the quality of the attack for next season. The Blues are ready to sell the striker as well, and have set up an asking price of £52m for his services.
Now, ex-Spurs player Steffen Freund has urged the Lilywhites to sign the France international in the summer. Speaking to Hochgepokart, Freund said,
“Tottenham need another attacking option. I’d look at Christopher Nkunku if I were them – he can make the difference. He can play in behind the striker and up front, he’s already at Chelsea. He did an outstanding job at RP Leipzig; he’s currently underperforming but there’s a great player in there. Mathys Tel is a good signing, he can play up front, and, on the wing, he’d link up well with Nkunku.”
Steffen Freund has suggested that Tottenham need to buy a new striker and the club should look to sign Christopher Nkunku for that position. The ex-Spurs player added that the Chelsea star is versatile and can either play as a number 10, or a striker up top. Freund pointed out that the Frenchman did a good job at RB Leipzig before his switch to Chelsea, and the 27-year-old can still be effective if he is utilised properly.
It is fair to suggest that the Spurs fans will not be too keen to see Nkunku don the Lilywhite jersey next season. The ex-Leipzig star has underperformed during his two-year stint at Stanford Bridge, and buying a player that is on the decline might not be the right move. The high asking price is another factor that could lure Tottenham away from the Frenchman.

But it is important to note that the 27-year-old would fit in perfectly in Thomas Frank’s setup. The Danish tactician prefers to play with two strikers up top against top teams, and with two number 10’s behind a lone striker against teams that sit deep. Both the formations would be ideal for Nkunku as he is good at linking up play with the wingers and the striker. The Chelsea star can also play as a number ten, and thrives when he is asked to invert in and create chances for his teammates.
