How Lewis-Skelly responded to Real Madrid interest

Real Madrid made enquiries over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s situation earlier this year, but his response was an emphatic desire to stay at Arsenal.

Tom Allnutt and Gary Jacob report for The Times that Real Madrid enquired about Myles Lewis-Skelly’s availability earlier this year, hoping that he’d let his deal run down and leave for free in 2026.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool this summer, Real Madrid were hoping Lewis-Skelly would follow suit next year.

But Lewis-Skelly’s determination to continue with Arsenal meant the discussions went no further, and he ultimately extended his deal to 2030 this month.

Fabrizio Romano reports for the Here We Go podcast that Lewis-Skelly never considered any other club, having an awareness of how lucky he is to be playing for Arsenal.

Romano says Real Madrid did make calls to understand the situation, but a move was never close. The answer from Lewis-Skelly’s camp was always “Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal”.

David Ornstein and James McNicholas report for The Athletic that it was inevitable there would be interest from other clubs, given the length of Lewis-Skelly’s previous deal. But the player’s priority throughout the contract negotiation process was to stay.

The secondary goal was to get the contract sorted before pre-season training, and that target has also been achieved.

Lewis-Skelly can now focus on his football, with a longer contract than any other player at the club right now.
