Exclusive: Liverpool plotting 'huge season' for academy product with future first-team role lined up

Exclusive with Graeme Bailey.

Liverpool are plotting out a pathway which could see Owen Beck join the first-team in the summer of 2026, Rousing The Kop can exclusively reveal.

Beck spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers, enjoying a successful campaign in the Championship before succumbing to injury.

Arne Slot is understood to have been impressed by the youngster’s form, and is set to factor Beck into the current changes at left-back for Liverpool.

After Andy Robertson’s transfer to Atletico Madrid fell through, Liverpool are understood to be looking for a loan move for Beck during the 2025/26 campaign.

As his contract is due to run out in the summer of 2026, Liverpool are working on fresh terms for the 22-year-old, before sending him out for the season.

Beck is known to have a number of potential suitors, but the Reds are taking their time in order to find the right club for the left-back.

Liverpool putting together Owen Beck plan

After a good season at Blackburn, Championship newcomers Wrexham are understood to be looking into a deal for Beck.

However, Liverpool are wary that the Welshman would not be a certain starter for Phil Parkinson, and are holding off on sanctioning the move.

Similarly, Rangers are also showing interest, but would have to move players on in order to free up space for Beck.

Sources have told RTK that Liverpool are very aware that it is a ‘huge season’ for Beck and as a result they are carefully considering the best club for his development.

It’s understood that the club will be chosen based on a plan which would see Beck take the place of Robertson in the Liverpool first team squad in 2026.

Robertson is out of contract in a year’s time, and the Reds’ are plotting an ‘ideal scenario’ which would involve the Welsh youngster embarking on a good loan spell before swapping in for the Scot next year.

Could Andy Robertson still leave?

Liverpool’s initial plan with Beck is understood to be contingent on Robertson staying and seeing out his contract at the club.

Despite Atletico moving on from Robertson, RTK understands there remains a possibility that further interest arrives in the 31-year-old.

Kostas Tsimikas is the most likely of the two players to depart, but should appropriate offers come in for both, Liverpool are understood to be open to promoting Beck ahead of time.

However, Slot’s best case would be for the Liverpool academy graduate to gain another season of experience out on loan before returning to play back-up to new signing Milos Kerkez.

Beck is highly rated at Anfield, and is seen internally as a player who very much still has a future with the club.
