**Newcastle United have reportedly made a trio of bids this week as they try desperately to give Eddie Howe some new squad members to work with when they return to training on 7th July.**
Eddie Howe has asked to board to act swiftly this summer so that he can have as much time as possible to get new recruits up to speed ahead of the new season.
This week, the Magpies have seemingly stepped up their efforts to do that, having made bids for Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, which was rejected immediately for being way below their valuation, James Trafford from Burnley, which again is below what Burnley are asking for, and Brighton's João Pedro.
It was reported this morning that Newcastle were in 'advanced talks' with Brighton over a deal for Joao Pedro giving hope that an agreement could be reached.

Newcastle have had an initial bid for Joao Pedro rejected
Newcastle's initial £50 million bid for João Pedro has been rejected

Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has now told [TBR Football](https://tbrfootball.com/newcastle-have-seen-a-50m-bid-rejected-for-incredible-attacker-also-wanted-by-chelsea/), however, that Newcastle made a bid of £50 million for João Pedro, which has been rejected by Brighton.
Interestingly, Bailey also says there was another club that bid for the Brazilian, whose approach was also rejected, but he didn't name that club, although TBR expects it may have been Chelsea. Obviously.
Brighton reportedly values João Pedro closer to £60 million, so while Newcastle went in low, it wasn't too far off the asking price when compared to the £15 million difference in bid and valuation of Anthony Elanga earlier this week.
Newcastle are still negotiating on all three fronts
---------------------------------------------------
There was always going to be a bit of back and forth before any of these deals got done, so there's no cause for alarm that our first bids have all been rejected for our three main targets.
The only real worry was that so many outlets were reporting that Newcastle were ready to walk away from the deals after the first rejection. That thankfully hasn't been the case, and we continue to work on the deals.
Whether any of them are done before the end of. Next week remains to be seen, but if any of the three are to be completed before the team returns to training, we expect it will more than likely be the James Trafford deal, as that one feels like the closest to being done.
