Cenk Tosun has reacted to news of a brand-new contract agreement at Everton.

Fenerbahçe striker Tosun played 61 times for Everton, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

His impact on the pitch at Goodison Park was limited. However, the 34-year-old was a popular figure among his teammates during his time on Merseyside.

And Tosun clearly still holds Everton close to his heart after a recent development.

Everton announced on Friday (27 June) that Coleman has signed a one-year contract extension with the Toffees.

Coleman’s minutes have been limited in recent seasons. However, David Moyes would have been keen on keeping the Irishman on the books for one more season as Everton undergo a period of transition.

Coleman’s minutes for Everton across the past three seasons

Tosun was clearly a fan of Coleman, with the Turkey international commenting under Everton’s post announcing the agreement, “Yesss skipper… What a player”.

And the good news might keep coming for Everton supporters after positive updates on a contract for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Coleman to play backup role next season

Coleman has struggled with injury for a while, and there is little expectation that he will play a huge part even after penning his extension.

This could be a move to ease his transition into a coaching role at Everton, and in terms of depth, he will play an emergency backup role if Kenny Tete is signed.

The departure of Ashley Young has left Everton short at right-back, where they currently have Jake O’Brien and Nathan Patterson. Therefore, Coleman’s extension will be welcomed with nothing but positivity.

The veteran is one of Everton’s greatest defenders of all time and has made an astonishing 428 appearances for the Toffees. Many will be delighted that Coleman gets to experience one season at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and will be the captain to lead Everton there for their maiden campaign.
