Man Utd’s recruitment has been questionable for a long time with one player branded a waste of money.

There are players who Ruben Amorim has clearly told the hierarchy at Manchester United that he wants to get rid of or who the previous board have decided need to be sold for financial reasons.

The irony is, the Red Devils boss would probably be able to get a tune out of some of them, if they bought into the project and what it takes to be a success at Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho given damning Man Utd verdict

There were flashes at Chelsea and hints that, at the right club, Sancho could rediscover the sort of form that saw United pay over £70m for his services, however, there hasn’t been enough.

Speaking on Talksport, former Chelsea hero Tony Cascarino agrees: “I mean, I've watched him this year at Chelsea a number of times, and at times he's played well. Yeah. But not been exceptional.

“He's been on fringes of games in other matches. I mean, what we've not mentioned is that Ruben Amorim doesn't even want to attempt to try and make it work. Yeah.

“No. And he's not worked with him? No, because he'd be if he was calling him back and saying, well, I'm having part of my squad and I'm going to use him.

“And hopefully he can settle and start playing his best football again. That's not the case. It's like, where can we get rid of him or where does he need to go? And at Chelsea. It wasn't a failure at Chelsea. It definitely wasn't that.”

Is Sancho’s wage and price tag the biggest problem?

Cascarino continued, saying that the transfer fee and exorbitant wages weren’t the only problem: “That'd be really unfair on him. It just didn't work the sort of fee that was, you know, what's paid for him, a £70 million pound player. And then he's on, I don't know, whatever, two, three hundred per thousand pound a week.

“It's all of these things. He didn't play of that level because no one, no footballer complains. And I don't even think fans complain.

“And if they're getting, you know, if the player is earning fortunes now, but he's playing really well, no fans are going, he's on 300 grand a week. They're like: ‘He's worth it. He's worth it’.

“And the problem is that Sancho's not been worth that sort of money that has been paid to him. He's not played to that level. So, it's a tough question because he's never really got going in the Premier League.

“As in we've seen a spell of three months of absolutely top football from him. We haven't seen that. We've just seen parts, a bit parts of him playing well, getting a good goal here and there and not much more.”

Cascarino is right, and that is the problem. Chelsea saw the odd glimpse of what Sancho is capable of, but clearly not enough, which puts United back to square one trying to sell a player who should be doing a lot more than he currently is.
