Leeds United could potentially have a new goalkeeper at Elland Road soon in Chelsea shot-stopper Djordje Petrovic.

Daniel Farke seems to have lost faith in Illan Meslier, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave the Whites this summer.

Petrovic is on the radar at Elland Road as the West Yorkshire outfit look for a new number one to help them avoid relegation from the Premier League next season.

The Peacocks now potentially have an opportunity to seal the Serbia international’s signing within days, as an imminent transfer may be on the cards.

The Turkish journalist who is followed by the likes of Sky Sports journalists Florian Plettenberg and Sacha Tavolieri revealed (27 June) that the 25-year-old goalkeeper has been sent to the second team at the Blues due to his attitude.

It’s been claimed that Maresca now wants the Serbian shot-stopper to leave immediately, potentially giving Leeds an opportunity to seal a deal soon at Elland Road.

The Whites are undoubtedly in desperate need of a new number one after Karl Darlow finished last season as Farke’s first choice in between the sticks.

Meslier made some howling errors in the previous campaign, which rightly led to his dismissal from the starting lineup.

The West Yorkshire outfit should prioritise buying a new goalkeeper this summer, and Petrovic seems to be the perfect option after being named Strasbourg’s Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign during his loan spell from Chelsea.

Meslier should be replaced by Petrovic at Leeds

Fenerbahce had reportedly agreed a deal to sign Meslier from the Whites this summer, but it looks like those rumours were premature.

Leeds have a significant decision to make regarding the 25-year-old Frenchman’s future, as his contract expires in 2026.

It would make sense for the West Yorkshire outfit to cash in on the ex-Lorient ace rather than losing him for free next year.

While Meslier showed a lot of potential at the Whites over the years, it feels like his time at Elland Road has come to an end.

Farke seems to have made up his mind about the shot-stopper, and it would be surprising to see him retain a place in the starting lineup next season.

Petrovic should be a decent replacement at Elland Road, but it remains to be seen whether the Peacocks make an offer for him.
