Leeds are aiming to strengthen several areas of their squad this summer.

Daniel Farke wants reinforcements in several different positions as the German prepares for life back in the Premier League, and the Whites have already strengthened their defence.

Jaka Bijol has joined as a centre-back. However, signings are also needed in midfield and attack as Leeds aim to survive in the English top-flight next season.

Amadou Koné has been targeted as a long-term midfield option to join Ao Tanaka in the middle of the park, and Leeds have now learned their fate in the race for his signature.

Koné set for Saudi Arabia move despite Leeds interest

Koné was sought after by several Premier League clubs, including Leeds, who wanted the Ivorian as an option at the base of midfield.

The 20-year-old has been outstanding in Ligue 1, featuring heavily for Stade De Reims, and several clubs were keen on signing him.

Koné has made 48 appearances for Reims and is considered a rising star in France, as his tenacity has proved impressive.

However, French outlet L’Equipe (27 June) have now reported that Koné has rejected interest from Leeds and OGC Nice to sign for Saudi Arabian club Neom SC.

A fee of around £10.2million has been agreed, and the promising talent will now move to the Saudi Pro League despite English and French interest.

Koné could have covered for Tanaka

Tanaka was one of Leeds’ best players last season, and thrived as a central midfielder, but another option could be desired to provide cover for him.

This could have been Koné, as a player who could step in when the Japan star is absent, or even play alongside him in the middle of the park.

However, Leeds have lost out on the youngster and will have to look elsewhere to reinforce their midfield depth.

Joshua Guilavogui departed after he hardly featured last season, and another experienced body could be ideal to help cope with the step-up in quality Leeds will face.
