Liverpool Add Freddie Woodman to Goalkeeping Ranks

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has today agreed to join Liverpool from Preston North End on a free transfer. The 28-year-old is a former England U21 international, and he made 138 appearances at Preston North End, even winning Player of the Year in 2022/23.

He was a Newcastle United Academy product, where he trained under his father, who was the Academy goalkeeping coach at the time. Notably, Woodman is England manager Gareth Southgate’s godson. He only made a handful of senior appearances at Newcastle, spending most of his career out on loans to the likes of Crawley Town, Kilmarnock in Scotland, and Swansea City, among others.

Woodman is the second goalkeeper to have joined Liverpool this summer, alongside Armin Pecsi. The Reds are bolstering the ranks following Caoimhín Kelleher’s move to Brentford and Vítězslav Jaroš’s loan to Ajax. Of course, Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili previously agreed to join the Reds this summer after spending last season at Valencia.
