'I was open to the move': Former PL attacker admits he wanted to join Everton after £70m bid

Everton are in the market to improve their wingers this summer, with multiple players departing the club.

On paper, this promises to be perhaps Everton’s busiest summer in history, with plenty taking place away from the pitch.

David Moyes is preparing his men to make the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium over the coming weeks, but he is waiting for new faces to land on Merseyside.

Having returned to the club back in January, Moyes has only seen one new signing made by the Friedkins.

Angus Kinnear is aware of the huge work needed at Everton, given the number of players departing as free agents.

With new forwards on the agenda, one former target on Merseyside has now shared details of his failed £70m move.

Wilfried Zaha sheds light on failed Everton transfer

Everton are prioritising new forward signings this summer, with clear reinforcement needed ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

It is a position which Everton have been keen to upgrade for years, having previously offered huge money for Wilfried Zaha during his Crystal Palace days.

Speaking on the Spiller Productions YouTube channel, Zaha has provided some clarity on his failed move to Goodison Park.

“They were in for me and I was open to it, I was open to the move, but things didn’t work out,” he said.

“But then it’s like it didn’t really upset me, I just got straight back to work.”

Everton have been set a big transfer budget by the Friedkins this summer, but there are too many holes to be filled to be splashing £70m on a player this time around.

After seeing the likes of Jack Harrison struggle to get fans excited, Zaha certainly would have offered that for a number of years.

But the Ivory Coast international now finds himself playing MLS football under Dean Smith with Charlotte FC.

Everton really tried to sign Zaha from Crystal Palace

Huge money was put forward to land the winger during his time at Selhurst Park.

It was not just money spent by the Toffees, as Everton also put a lot of time into trying to land Zaha.

Taking to social media, Alan Myers has admitted the Blues made numerous efforts to bring Zaha to Merseyside over the years.

Fans could soon see Everton sign striker Thierno Barry, with talks ongoing with Spanish outfit Villarreal.

But it is new signings across the entire front line needed for Moyes to go into the new season with confidence of being a real threat.
