Arsenal are continuing informal talks over a potential move for Aston Villa winger Morgan Rogers, as sporting director Andrea Berta gathers information on a number of wide attacking options ahead of a critical phase in the summer transfer window.

With Financial Fair Play restrictions (PSR) easing after June 30, the end of the 2024/25 accounting period, Premier League clubs are expected to regain greater financial flexibility, setting the stage for a flurry of transfer activity in July. Arsenal, who have kept spending in check until now, are preparing to ramp up their recruitment efforts in the coming weeks.

According toExpress Sport, the Gunners remain in contact with Rogers’ representatives, having first opened discussions about a month ago. While Arsenal have yet to lock in on a single left-wing target, Rogers remains a prominent name on their shortlist as other options fall by the wayside.

Athletic Club’s Nico Williams was previously considered, but Arsenal were unwilling to meet the winger’s significant wage demands. He is now expected to join Barcelona. Similarly, a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo appears unlikely due to his high price tag and uncertain availability, while Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, admired at the Emirates could command a fee in excess of £100 million.

Rogers, 22, enjoyed a breakout season with Aston Villa and is valued at upwards of £70 million. However, Villa’s position in negotiations may depend on their financial situation. The Midlands club have faced PSR pressure this summer and are reportedly considering selling their women’s team or cashing in on players like Emi Martinez and Jacob Ramsey to remain compliant. Offloading other assets could strengthen their stance in keeping Rogers.

Arsenal’s search for wide reinforcements is part of a broader push to reshape the squad’s attacking depth. While Berta is also monitoring Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Rogers brings added value due to his versatility, able to operate not only on the left wing but also in central roles.

Chelsea are also said to be interested in Rogers, while Liverpool, who previously enquired before the transfer window opened, appear to have cooled their interest.

The potential arrival of a new left-sided attacker could place current starter Gabriel Martinelli’s future in doubt. The Brazilian has struggled for consistency, and sources suggest Arsenal may be open to selling him if a substantial offer arrives.
