Manchester United are hoping to sell winger Jadon Sancho this summer after the 25-year-old’s loan spell with Chelsea.

Much of Manchester United’s summer transfer business rests on whether they can sell some players in order to not only generate budget to spend, but also wiggle room in terms of wage budgets.

Sancho is an intriguing one, as it looked like Chelsea would pay the £25m obligation to buy him after his loan at Stamford Bridge expired at the end of the season, however, they couldn’t agree personal terms with Sancho due to his high wage bill at Old Trafford.

Napoli and Juventus ‘willing’ to pay £25m for Sancho

Ever since Chelsea decided against signing the 25-year-old, there have been several top clubs linked to him, with significant interest from the Serie A. Both Juventus and Napoli are keen on the winger, and both have been in talks regarding a possible deal.

However, it was unclear as to whether they were happy to fork out the money to sign Sancho rather than just sign him on loan. However, according to a report by the Metro, both clubs are ‘willing’ to meet the £25m demand that United have for Sacho, which gives the Red Devils a potential green light to sell him.

Last season, the English winger had a successful spell with Chelsea, making 42 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side. He scored five goals and provided 10 assists, including a goal in the Europa Conference League final to hand the Blues with a piece of European silverware.

It has also been said that Borussia Dortmund are keen on Sancho, after he has had two spells with the Bundesliga club. He signed for United from Dortmund in 2021, before also having a short-term loan spell back at the German club in 2024. However, their interest in him seems to have cooled compared to Juventus and Napoli.

Jadon Sancho’s wages could be a stumbling block

For all that sounds fantastic about the fact that Napoli and Juventus both want to spend the £25m to bring Sancho to Italy, there is still a question mark surrounding his wages. It was the reason why Chelsea didn’t sign him permanently, regardless of the fact that they really liked the winger and he had a successful spell with the club.

Whether it is Sancho lowering his wage demands, or one of the buying clubs willing to stretch on his salary, one of if not both sides will need to allow movement in their negotiation, otherwise United could struggle to sell the 25-year-old.

The other option is that they send him out on a loan with an obligation to buy again, like at Chelsea, however, that wouldn’t help United’s transfer budget, and the same issue regarding Sancho’s wages could return when it comes to paying that £25m obligation - like at Chelsea.
