Man City plot move for England defender

Manchester City will face Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup on Tuesday morning.

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to an impressive 5-2 victory over Serie A giants Juventus in their final group stage game on Thursday, continuing their perfect record in the competition so far.

The Citizens endured a below-par campaign last season, but they already look far more impressive following the arrivals of Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri in recent weeks.

City will be strong favourites to beat Al Hilal and reach the quarter-finals of the competition, with Champions League finalists Inter Milan possibly awaiting them in the quarter-finals.

In the meantime, it appears that City are plotting an audacious move for an England international.

According to GiveMeSport, the Citizens are preparing a move for Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento.

The 22-year-old impressed for Eddie Howe’s side last term, but the Magpies have remained adamant that he is not for sale.

Despite this, the report claims that City are confident that the player himself is keen on the prospect of a move to The Etihad.

Livramento joined Newcastle from Southampton in 2023, having previously emerged from Chelsea’s fruitful academy.

The right-back failed to make a single senior appearance during his time at Stamford Bridge, but impressed for the Saints and has continued his development since swapping St Mary’s for St. James’ Park.

Livramento – who made his England debut in November last year – is said to be City’s top target as they search for a new right-back.

Despite City’s interest in the player and their confidence that he wants to leave, the report claims that Newcastle believe that the right-back is happy on Tyneside and isn’t intent on leaving the club this summer.
