Marco Carnesecchi has now reportedly emerged as a target for Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim eager to bolster his options between the sticks. The Atalanta goalkeeper has caught the eye in the Italian top-flight, making him an attractive replacement for Andre Onana.
Carnesecchi, whose contract at the Gewiss Stadium expires in June 2028, featured 34 times in the Serie A last season, keeping 13 clean sheets while conceding just 34 goals. Playing a key role in the side, he helped Atalanta finish in third place and qualify for the Champions League.
The 24-year-old's impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed, attracting interest from top clubs. So, with all that being said, The Manchester Evening News has rounded up everything you need to know about Carnesecchi - and a potential transfer to United;
Who is
Cesena FC, who currently play in Serie B, signed Carnesecchi from his local side, A.S.D. Sant'Ermete, when he was still in school. The teenager earned his stripes in the club's academy before earning a move to Atalanta in January 2017.
Carnesecchi enjoyed a loan spell at FC Trapani 1905 in the Serie B during the 2019/2020 campaign. He then spent the first half of the 2020/2021 term at La Dea before going back out on loan; this time with US Cremonese, where he stayed for two-and-a-half years as they secured promotion to the top-flight.
Carnesecchi, who has been compared to "a young David de Gea" in the past, was then thrown into the starting line-up at Atalanta - and he's remained the first-choice goalkeeper ever since. Gian Piero Gasperini has since left Atalanta to join Roma, which has naturally cast doubt over the futures of many players.

Carnesecchi relishes 'huge responsibility'
Earlier this year, Carnesecchi recognised the responsibility of a goalkeeper in a squad vying for some silverware. Speaking to Italian outlet Gazzetta in January, as quoted by Football Italia, the United target said: "Atalanta gave me the goal, and I must be up to the task.
"It's not for me, but for the team. If a goalkeeper does not do well, the entire team is unlikely to be successful. It takes energy away. We are competing for huge targets, and I needed this responsibility."
Carnesecchi went on: "I was not so noticed last season, but I had an incredible season and a remarkable growth that allowed me to get to this campaign with a different mentality."

At the start of the new year, Atalanta were three points behind Napoli in the Serie A title race and with a game in hand. Unfortunately for Carnesecchi, Scott McTominay fired Antonio Conte's side to the Scudetto.
"After the win in Dublin [the Europa League final], I expected a great season," said the United target. "It's still such a long way and right now, we must pretend we are behind. We can talk about 'that' target [the Scudetto] from April."
Do United want to sign Carnesecchi
According to Football Italia, United are ready to submit an opening bid worth €40million (£34m) for Carnesecchi. The report claims that Atalanta want a fee closer to €50million (£43m) for their stopper - but performance-based add-ons could help bridge the gap in valuations.

It's said that, in order for a deal to materialise, United need to sell Onana, who has recently been linked with a move to Ligue 1 and the Saudi Pro League, as well. Football Italia add that the Reds remain interested in signing Carnesecchi's teammate, Ederson, who's also being monitored by Al-Hilal.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has reported that United haven't started "serious or concrete negotiations" with Atalanta for Carnesecchi. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the journalist said: "My understanding as of today is that Manchester United have not started any serious or concrete negotiations with Atalanta for Carnesecchi.
"I'm not aware of concrete talks between Manchester United and Atalanta.
"They've been scouting several goalkeepers this year - including Carnesecchi - who is a very good one, but at the moment, to tell you there is a negotiation, there is a bid or whatever, I'm told that we are not at that stage of the story."
Man Utd have been tipped to make a move for Marco Carnesecchi if Andre Onana leaves.

On the Onana to AS Monaco rumours, Romano added: "I keep denying the story on Andre Onana and Monaco because, at the moment, there is nothing between Andre Onana and Monaco.
"I'm getting strong denials from Monaco.
"They insist that the player is not a target this summer - so that's the position from Monaco. For Onana, there is some interest from Saudi but, at the moment, still no concrete proposal or advanced negotiations.
"And so, if they get a bid for Onana, let's see what United will decide to do for the goalkeeper. Emiliano Martinez would be keen on a move to United, but at the moment no conversations, no negotiations, no talks, just because it's a player's desire, but nothing else at the moment."
