RB Leipzig have reportedly softened their stance over the transfer fee for highly-rated striker Benjamin Sesko, as Arsenal continue their search for a new centre-forward ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The Gunners are weighing up options in the market, with Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres both on their shortlist. Mikel Arteta is eager to strengthen his attacking options to bolster Arsenal’s title challenge, but financial constraints have played a key role in shaping the club’s approach.

According toBild, Leipzig are now willing to accept a reduced fee of around €70 million (£59.7m) for Sesko, having previously demanded a sum between €80m and €100m (£68m–£85m). Arsenal have not yet submitted an official offer for the Slovenia international, but he is understood to be Arteta’s preferred choice.

Talks with Sporting Lisbon over Gyokeres have already taken place, with Arsenal seeing an initial offer worth €55 million (£46.8m) plus €10 million (£8.5m) in add-ons rejected. However, complications have emerged in that deal, with reports of a tense standoff between the player and his club. Gyokeres is said to be pushing for a move, believing Sporting have gone back on an agreement regarding his release fee.

In contrast, Sesko’s camp have taken a more diplomatic stance. Speaking to the media, Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic denied claims they were pressuring Leipzig to lower their demands, stressing their commitment to conducting business respectfully.

“This is far from the truth,” Basanovic said. “We respect RB Leipzig and I am 100% convinced they will respect our decision when the time comes. Even if there is strong interest from the player to move, we will never force or blackmail the club.

“The way a player exits a club reflects his values, which he carries into his new club. We believe in doing things the right way — or not at all.”

With Leipzig now seemingly more flexible on their asking price, Arsenal could look to take advantage in the coming weeks as they aim to secure their top target for the central striker role.
