Cliff Omoruyi Signs With Toronto Raptors as a Free Agent

Former Rutgers center Cliff Omoruyi, who spent his last season of collegiate play at Alabama, has signed a UDFA deal with the Toronto Raptors following the conclusion of the NBA draft. The 6 foot 11, 250 pounder is likely headed to the Raptors G-league team, Raptors 905, the same G-league team where his former Rutgers teammate Ron Harper Jr. landed during his first season out of college.

During his only season with the Crimson Tide, Omoruyi averaged 7.9 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. During his four prior years with the Scarlet Knights, Omoruyi averaged 10.3 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Omoruyi’s decision to transfer has led to a big what-if scenario for Rutgers. Last season, Rutgers failed to make the NCAA tournament despite having two players who would go in the top five of the NBA draft. One of the largest pitfalls of their roster was not having a true rim-protecting center like Omoruyi. Had he decided to stick around, it could have very well changed the whole narrative for the season.
