Former Milwaukee Bucks PG Announces Plans for NBA Comeback in 2025-26

The Milwaukee Bucks did not draft a player that many believe will be an immediate contributor to their team during the 2025-26 NBA season. With the 47th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Bucks selected Bogoljub Markovic from, a 19-year-old near seven-footer from Serbia. While he is going to join Milwaukee’s Summer League team in hopes of earning a roster spot, many fans and analysts believe the Bucks will stash him overseas and let him develop before adding him to the team.

After the draft was over, Milwaukee signed former Alabama point guard Mark Sears. And while point guard is an area of need for the Bucks due to the torn Achilles suffered by Damian Lillard, Sears stands just six-foot-one, and there are many who think his size will prohibit him from being a regular contributor in the NBA.

But while Milwaukee continues to figure out what to do at the point guard position next season, one of their former players at the position has announced he wants to return to the NBA.

Former Milwaukee Bucks Guard Patrick Beverley Wants to Return to the NBA

During the 2023-24 NBA season, the Bucks found themselves in need of a backup point guard behind Lillard. And so, ahead of the trade deadline, they acquired Patrick Beverley, a Doc Rivers favorite, in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Beverley played 26 regular season games for Milwaukee, averaging 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 per game primarily coming off the bench. In their six-game series loss to the Indiana Pacers in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs, Beverley averaged 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.

Upon becoming a free agent following that season, Beverley decided not to sign with an NBA team. Instead, he signed with Hopel Tel Aviv, a professional team in Israel. In 14 games of league play with them, he averaged 10.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. In nine games of Euro League play, the three-time All-NBA Defensive team member averaged 9.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Beverley’s time in Israel, though, was cut short due to several factors. He was suspended for mocking his head coach on social media and faced some backlash from fans over his wife’s Iranian heritage.

It appears the experience in Israel was enough to make the former Bucks point guard miss the NBA, and he announced on social media during the draft that he intends to make a comeback this upcoming season:

looking at all

options as we speak. we def going back to NBA next season 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️ https://t.co/nx75m6gztg

Beverley is a tough defensive player and will likely generate some interest on the free agent market. Just where he ends up remains to be seen, but it would be surprising if it was a return to Milwaukee.
