Tino Livramento
City considered a move for Tino Livramento as they assessed their right-back options
It doesn't yet get the yellow ticker tape treatment, but Monday's June 30 deadline for clubs to make sure they fall into line with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) could yet see a flurry of deals done this weekend.
It became a key date last summer, when Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Everton all made deals, many with each other and involving the trading of academy graduates, to ensure they balanced the books and avoided a breach of the rules.
The harsh sanctions handed out to Everton and Nottingham Forest have put boardrooms on high alert, and it is now clear that a failure to stick within the £105million three-year loss limit is likely to result in a points deduction.
This summer, the situation doesn't seem quite as critical in the Premier League. Burnley and Aston Villa look most in need of sales before Monday, while Everton, Leeds, and Newcastle come next. All five of those clubs are, at the very least, constrained by PSR until July 1, the beginning of a new fiscal year for clubs.
might have been following Newcastle's case most closely. They have had a quiet opening to the window, but unlike last summer, when they sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest, respectively, before June 30, there isn't as much pressure to sell this time around.
Their qualification for the Champions League has given them a vital boost financially, and it means Eddie Howe can focus on keeping his squad together. City had shown an interest in right-back Tino Livramento, but that deal became more difficult after the final day of the season, when the Magpies secured that top-five finish.
Had they slipped out of those places, it might have placed an onus on a sale and by bidding for the 22-year-old. Instead, Livramento has spent the summer with England Under-21s, and their European Championship final against Germany on Saturday night kills any faint remaining hope of a deal before June 30.

With the window still open for another two months, City might return to Livramento as they assess their right-back options, but it's now clear any deal will be on Newcastle's terms rather than a potential bargain.
The good news for the Blues is that they are as secure as any other Premier League club when it comes to PSR rules. Beyond the potential to take advantage of sales at other clubs, the June 30 unofficial deadline is an irrelevance at the Etihad.
The day will pass by with City's focus on the Club World Cup in America, rather than trying to shove anyone out of the door to boost their coffers. The reason for that is the revenues now generated by the club, but with academy players counting as pure profit, City's excellent record in selling youngsters is a major bonus.
This summer alone, it is likely James McAtee will headline the list of academy graduates being sold for sizeable sums. Those kinds of deals are once again proving invaluable, and it means City can drive a hard bargain for McAtee and co, rather than having to rush through sales before June 30.
