Nebraska basketball's Brice Williams signs deal with the Detroit Pistons

After going undrafted, Brice Williams didn’t wait long for the next step of his career.

The former Nebraska guard signed with the Detroit Pistons on Friday, continuing his rise from unheralded high school prospect to mid-major role player to All-Big Ten wing to now in the professional ranks.

Williams averaged 20.4 points and shot 37% from 3-point range in his sixth collegiate season and second at Nebraska in 2024-25. He joined the Huskers after four years at Charlotte, where his scoring increased from 2.3 points per game as a freshman to 13.8 as a senior.

Competing dynamics to Williams’ game and makeup defined him as an NBA prospect. His length and ability to knock down shots were translatable to the next level, but his age — turning 24 in July — was a knock against him.

Before Williams, the most recent Nebraska to sign with an NBA franchise was Keisei Tominaga, who inked an Exhibit 10 deal with the Indiana Pacers in 2024. Tominaga spent the season on the Pacers’ G League team and returned to his home country of Japan to play professionally next season.

Williams attended the NBA combine, where he scored 24 points in his second scrimmage. He met with a handful of teams in the weeks leading up to the draft, trying to present the grit and work ethic that powered him through his college career to prospective employers.

“Just competing,” he said after working out with the Golden State Warriors in early June. “Competing every day. My shot making. I guess my versatility. That’s what I bring night-in and night-out. I’m not gonna say I’m gonna make a shot every day or I shoot well or I make the right decisions every time. But they know I compete. They know I talk. They know I bring energy, and that’s what I can hang my hat on every day.”
