Chelsea have the chance to freshen up their ranks with some signings in the transfer window

Chelsea are back in the Champions League and need to ensure that they get their recruitment right this summer. The London club must acquire the right type of characters over the next couple of months, as well as players who have quality. Enzo Maresca has done a decent job since taking over at Stamford Bridge last year.

The Blues picked him as their replacement for Mauricio Pochettino around 12 months ago. Prior to his move, he impressed at Leicester City and won the Championship title with the Foxes. We have asked AI to predict Chelsea’s transfer business in this window, here are the results…

Chelsea to boost attacking ranks

Chelsea have been predicted to sign Brentford winger Yoane Wissa this summer by AI. He was valued £40million in January amid attention from Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. The Bees could now face a battle to keep hold of him after Thomas Frank’s exit to Spurs.

Wissa, 28, would be a bit older than what the Blues usually go for with their targets these days. Nevertheless, he would be an experienced option to pick from. He scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, 19 of which came in the league, so knows where the back of the net is.

AI has backed Chelsea to snap up Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. He would be an exciting coup if they managed to snatch him away from the Red Devils. His long-term future at Old Trafford is in the balance right now and it remains to be seen whether he is part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.

The Argentina international has bags of potential at the age of 20 and would be a great long-term addition. He joined United back in 2020 as a teenager and has since broken into their first-team. The attacker had previously been on the books at Atletico Madrid before making England his home.

Further down the pitch, AI has tipped the Blues to bring in Joao Gomes from Wolves. He would add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks. He could compete with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez for a place in the team.

Gomes switched to Molineux from Flamengo back in 2023 and arrived in the Midlands as a bit of an unknown quantity. He has since become an important player and has featured on 87 occasions, finding the net seven times. Time will tell whether Vitor Pereira will be able to keep hold of him or whether he will head out the exit door.

Who could leave Chelsea this summer?

Ben Chilwell has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea. The left-back is now surplus to requirements and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave permanently over the next couple of months. AI believes he will be sold at some point too.

Chilwell was given the green light to link up with Crystal Palace on loan back in January to get some game time under his belt. His spell at Selhurst Park has helped put him in the shop window now and keep up his fitness levels. He helped the Eagles win the FA Cup last month after they beat Manchester City in the final at Wembley against the odds courtesy of Eberechi Eze’s winner.

AI also reckons Carney Chukwuemeka will go soon as well. Like Chilwell, he was loaned out this past winter to get some minutes somewhere else. Borussia Dortmund came calling for his services and he spent the second-half of last term in Germany. The ex-Aston Villa man has potential and could turn out to be a shrewd acquisition for another team in the top flight. He just isn’t guaranteed to play under Maresca at this moment in time. Instead of just sitting on the bench, leaving would make a lot more sense for him.

David Datro Fofana’s move to Chelsea in 2023 just hasn’t worked out for him. The 22-year-old was identified as one for the future and looked a bright talent during his Molde days. He hasn’t been able to live up to the hype though. AI has predicted that he will depart full-time after his recent stint at Goztepe. The Ivory Coast international has also been shipped out to Union Berlin and Burnley over recent times. He scored four goals in 15 matches for the latter during his time at Turf Moor.
