Young Wolves star told to be more aggressive as he hunts first-team chances

The 18-year-old full-back is preparing for his second season at the club after moving from Sport Recife for £8.4million last summer.

Lima made just six total appearances in his first campaign in English football, with January’s 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest his only start.

Boss Pereira believes the youngster has the potential to be a major player in the future but believes he will need time to improve his physicality.

He said: "I see talent, especially offensively. He needs to improve one against one defensively, he needs to be more aggressive and better in the air. We are working with him on that.

"Especially with young players, we are doing special work with them to increase this.

"Opportunities that you can give to one player depends on the player in his position because they are competing.

"One is an experienced player and one is a talented player that came from Brazil, with difficult tactical demands, different technical skills, and aggression.

"It takes time to adapt and he is in this moment.

"He's trying, he's a worker, he likes to work for the team and he's trying to improve his level.

Lima will get the chance to show his development in pre-season and further opportunities could come his way should captain Nelson Semedo choose to leave the club.

His signing last summer was seen as something of a coup for Wolves, with Chelsea having previously been linked with a move for a player who represented Brazil at the under-17 World Cup in 2023.

Pereira has no doubts over his potential, explaining: "He's strong, he has good technique.

"He just needs to grow up as a player, in maturity, to go inside without being afraid, to be more aggressive when he's defending because he needs to be more aggressive on the ball.

"This is something that we are trying to improve with him, but he's a very good player.”

Wolves Women have made their first signing of the summer by adding midfielder Amy Sims.

The 26-year-old, who previously captained Derby County, played for the Nottingham Forest team which beat Wolves to the Premier Division North title last season.

Boss Dan McNamara described her signing as a “statement” by the club.

“I’m delighted to have been able to bring Amy to Wolves,” he said. “I’ve known her for a few years, and she used to cause us all kinds of problems. She’s an excellent, all-rounded player, and she’s got so much ability, energy, aggression and she’s technically really clean, so I’m delighted.

“I think this a bit of a statement from the football club that we went out and did some business early and got someone of her calibre over the line because she’s tried and tested in tier three, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what she can bring.”
